Hi, my name is Sebastian König, better known as ESKEI83. I’m a DJ & producer from Germany.

2/ i’m a turntablist too and i love some german dj’s like rafik , unkut , pro zeiko ! You won the redbull thre3style in 2014 , can you talk a little about it? How does it improve your carreer?

Entering a competition like 3style makes you work hard on yourself and you’re evolving your skill in this process. You practice delay and try to find routines, tracks & techniques that impress DJs and regular crowd. Working on this stuff to play a good set makes you a better DJ, even if you don’t win the competition. Just entering helps a lot. Also is this a great platform. Many people are interested in the sets of the DJs and you get a chance to perform for a big audience online and on the events. Winning the competition gives you another boost – so you see. It’s really good for a DJ career to enter DJ competitions.

3/ when did you start scraching ?

I got turntables when I was 16. I was making beats this time and wanted to record some scratches on my beats a la DJ Premier. But got really into scratching years later when I entered my first competitions. It weren’t scratch battles – more like DJ mix challenges. I used scratching in my club sets since then and try to become better in it.

4/ What’s your feelings about turntablism scene this times?

I think it’s great. All the new technology allows us to do great stuff and be super musical. Also the pure, real vinyl scratching is super inspiring still. People come up with cool new routines analog & digital every week. Really dope time for DJing.

5/ will you entry for some competition again?

Every time I hear about a competition I want to enter, but at the moment I don’t have enough time. I practice a lot for my shows, mixes & videos – there’s so much to learn. Maybe in 1,2 years I can come back as a better scratch DJ and enter a competition. But for now I want to work on my skills and on my own music, release own tracks.

6/ Do you have some release for this year? What are your next projects?

I just released my track FIRE with Bunji Garlin, I’ll drop a Track with Z-Trip soon, I have some more finished tracks that you can hear in my mix already with my boys Drunken Masters, Gunjah & Snelle Jelle. There’s a lot to come.

7/any upcoming tour?

I’ll be on tour in Europe in May and will play a show in Paris. Cannot announce unfortunately but I’m really looking forward to this.

1 / Clem beatz hello and thank you for what you have cooked for us! Can you introduce yourself for those who do not know you?

I am 26 years old, I come from Hyères (a city in south-east France), I’m a musician/beatmaker doing Trip Hop/Jazz/Electronic music. I started beatmaking about 5 years ago but I make music (guitar, rock etc …) for almost 13 or 14 years. Since college it was all about Nirvana/Linkin Park/Toto/Police, etc … electric guitar all the way, grunge era, the time when I started a band with some friends (the band existed until high school). Hip-hop came much later. A friend (It was with this friend , among other things, which I have formed the group De l’eau dans le jazz thereafter) asked me to try to make him a beat using a sample that he had heard in a song from a  group named Sniper (to just sample the intro). So I tried, I was not overly confident with the results but I tried! it was really something new for me … integrate an external thing in a song. In the end the really liked the result, so he started writing a text on that beat and then I found it really exciting … this exercise of « sampling » really hooked with me, so I kept working a little on things like that, sampling old sounds of Soul and Jazz that I had in mind.

2 / Tell us a little about this 30min mix, and more about of your influences

In this mix I threw songs I listened to for a few years and songs that I discovered recently, but which remain in the universe that thrills me every day! My influences are quite varied, many old school producers such as Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Kev Brown, Grap Luva, Suff Daddy, Black Milk, 9th Wonder, Evidence and newer things like Mac Miller, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, FKJ Logic, Flume …

3 / We saw that you had just released an EP, you can tell us about it?

« Trouble In Paradise » is a project that I have been working on for a year and a half, since the time I started my diehard journey into « composition ». Put away the samples and create a whole orchestration by myself by using all that I had learned over the years, techniques, new styles of music I’ve just discovered etc … Leave the « Jazzy Hip Hop / Soul » aside and dig the universe of « electronic / Trip Hop » that interested me for several months. All this has resulted in an EP of six tracks with quite different atmospheres, songs that translate the different emotions that I’ve experienced over this year of composition, my moods, joys, sorrows. The project fell into the ears of the DDM Recordings (Dealer De Musique), they offered to take care of this EP, released under their structure, I agreed with pretty good confidence .. choice I do not regret today! They really did a hell of a job. Blanka took care of the mixing / mastering … that is for itself, a great success.

4 / How have you connected with the guests on your EP?

The featurings followed a number of encounters I have made for 2 or 3 years now. RacecaR with whom I had worked a lot of times before, I had met him in Paris and we went along very well. I met Mary during a YEPA concert (in a venue named La boule noire) where I was doing the first part, we discussed in the backstage, I talked her into making a collaboration in the coming months (without really believing in it in the beginning lol) but at the end it’s done! Dr Syntax and Sparkz I listened to them since The Mouse Outfit, for hours. listening to the group’s album (one more influence!), The two MC’s came to a concert in Toulon last year in a bar I usually go, I talked with them for half an hour over a beer about a collaboration if they had time, it happened much later … but that’s done ! and I am very proud. and for Atom, I follow his work since a really long time (since I discovered C2C … so it goes way back!). We stayed in touch following a Remix I had done with his song « Feel » (ft. Marksman Lloyd and Coin Banks), he enjoyed the work I had done with his acapella. After that I offered to put a few scratches on the track « Spark » a few scratches which turned into a 24 bars outro! Awesome !!!!!!!

1/ Hi and thank you to take time for our show ! Can you introduce yourself for those who don’t know you ?

1. My name is Orlando Marshall aka Buscrates, and I hail from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (now residing in Atlanta, Georgia). I’m a solo artist, as well as 1/3 of ELQ (East Liberty Quarters). I started out as a primarily Hip-Hop based artist, but over the years I got more into other things..mostly the funk!

2/ Can you talk a lil bit about you set ? What are your influences?

2.This set included a lot of long time favorites, as well as a few recent finds. I had gone record shopping a few days or a week prior to recording this mix, so that’s always influential to go out and get some new tunes or some things I discovered along the way.  

3/ I love the East liberty quarters project. How many project do you have? can you talk about them ?

3. Thanks man, glad you dig it! We released our first EP in 2011 on Rotating Souls Records (what’s up Curt!). That same year in October we did our first show ever, opening for Dam Funk. East Liberty Quarters is Geeman, Nice Rec, and me. We have a genuine love for all things funky..and we were already homies way before ELQ started sometime in 2008-2009. So far, we have two EPs (The East Liberty Quarters EP and The 206), a 7″ (Holiday/Streetlights), and a track on Omega Supreme Records compilation Raw Silk Vol. 1 (The 206).

4/ Who are the artists to follow for you?

4. Brian Ellis, he’s been putting in a ton of work lately. Check out his ‘Reflections’ EP.My homie Walla P who runs Voyage Funktastique, he’s going to put out some quality stuff (he released a compilation last year which features a track I did with Nice Rec from ELQ), and also be on the lookout for Synthesiz, a duo I formed with Brett Eclectic back in 2014..  

5/ any releases?

5. Next release for me is going to be a remix I did for Kutcorners featuring K-Maxx. The track is called ‘Need2Know’, and will be available on a 7″ soon! Shouts to my man Big Jacks for that! Most likely the Synthesiz project will be done this year as well. 

6/ Tour?

6. Nothing solidified for a tour yet, although I will have the random DJ and/or performance gig here and there. If you follow/like my Facebook page, I’ll have everything updated there. I update it pretty regularly.

1 / Hi Vincent, thank you for the invitation. My name is Lucien aka Ruck P, I am 28 years old, Producer and DJ in Switzerland.

2 / Tell us about of your mix. What are your influences?

2 / This mix contains songs from Chief and UNDA from Switzerland. This is actually Chief who helped me start Beatmaking around 2006. I remember some evenings we stayed 3 or 4 hours on MSN (Messenger) and he showed me some of his songs and we spoked about each elements . It is anyway a big influence for me. I chosed international artists like Lusta Bitek (Hungary), Betty Ford Boys (Germany, Austria) and a large part of the others are coming from the United States.

3 / You have multiple projects, can you talk a little much about it?

3 / As Ruck P, I mostly make Remixes, Beats and Instrumentals for many other artists. Then I have the project Ruck n ‘Wiz where we go live as DJ’s, we have released several mixes on soundcloud. Then I’m part of Boulevard 95. It is a Future Groove project, more up-tempo and electronic than my other projects.

4 / I’m from the scratch scene I saw that your partner made the redbull threestyle, what’s up with him?

4 / It has been a great experience for him to go to Tokyo to represent Switzerland and even get the 3rd place. it has opened some doors for mixing live and has allowed him to make international connections. we try to go regularly in the Studio even though he often mixes up to 2 times per weekend.

5 / What are in your opinion the artists to follow now?

5 / There are really a lot of talent to discover. I am often overwhelmed when I’m on soundcloud. I still try to find some artists: – Butcher Brown (These guys are the new BadBadNotGood I think they will have a bright future.) – Connective Boyoom (I’m a big fan of the label including artists like Melodiesinfonie, UNDA or Maloon The Boom) – Amin Payne (I’m a big fan of it and especially the beatmaking Australian scene).

6 / Any upcoming dates?

6 / In 2016, we’ll make a release for boulevard 95 and I hope to have the opportunity to get bookings outside Switzerland.

1/ Hi MAD COMPUTER we discovered you with the help of the remix for chief and john robinson, thank you for this mix you have prepared for Retrofuture. Could you introduce yourself for those who do not know you?

I’m Mad Computer, and I produce sound waves from Paris. Musically, I do not really know what I’m doing, but I do it for 4 years.

2/ Tell us about your mix. What are your influences?

In the mix that I concocted, in addition to some of my songs, there’s everything I love the most about music, at least at the moment: violent beats, others softs but wich laugh to your face, and rap. My influences I do not know very well, but I noticed that I liked electronic noises, 8 bit from machine that bug, things like that. And I love hip hop all of it.

3/ Let’s go back to this remix contest, what did you get from it?

The remix of « Everywhere » for the competition organized by Feelin Music, I had a lot of fun doing it. It’s on the remix EP they released, suddenly it has given me visibility, and got a sound which I’m happy with.

4/ Can you tell us ubout the mad computer project in little more details?

As my name suggests, I want people to realize they are dealing with computer music a little weird when they hear what I do. I evolve in this madness while being severely affected by hip hop syndrome.

5/ What are in your opinion the artists to follow now?

SHADES, collaboration of EPROM and Alix Perez who are into hip hop with big bass are a pleasure to the ears. Guys from Tangram Records, and especially LTGL and Up High Collective which for me are simply the future. And Ho99o9 two weird guys I invite you to listen immediately. They crush everything. And Siboy too, hahaha.

About upcoming shows, nothing yet, sadly. Otherwise, I am since a long time on a project that will come out soon on a label that I like a lot, but it’s a secret.

1 Hi Sims, first of all thank you for giving us the time to talk and also for making this exclusive mix for RetroFuture. Could you introduce yourself for those who do not know you??

Hello, I’m Sims, dj … since over 15 years now … I am from the North of France, and it’s been ten years that I am living in Paris. I was Dj for the Scred connexion (one of the first french rap’s super group) for 7 years, I won the battle Threestyle Paris in 2010 and did 2nd  French … I love playing with original samples so I did some mixtapes on this subject: one on the 90’s hip hop in general, a MF DOOM one with a video made by  Mass and Alan G wich we added to our live opening for Doom in Paris … A mix of original samples of the French Touch and now I’m currently working on samples from NWA …

2 You are part of the collective Now Futur Can you tell us about it?

Now Futur, is something we came up with Mass a couple of years ago now. Basically the idea was to make mixtapes to put the light on new hip hop US talents picked through the continuous flood of internet music, a bit like gold diggers in a river … We were looking for gold .  We did 7, 1 hour mixtapes which gathered excellent but largely unknown rappers. We worked like crazy on these tapes that are, from my point of view, very good ss far as the selection of the mixes … We take it very seriously when we put ourselves on a project. After that, we began to take interest in producers from other types of music (Future Beat / bass music …) at the same time we had an opportunity on Rinse every week … From one thing to another we met the guys from cosmonostro: William the boss of the label, Dtweezer and Primat artists signed to this label. there was a good feeling between us then we asked to be part of the collective both to expand the musical landscape but also to find a pretext for parties and jokes. Then came Versailles The Everything  who’s in the US working on an EP with the collective’s materials. Lately we closed our Soundcloud account because we are moving … We must recreate a fan base elsewhere ….

3 Tell us about your mix. Can you tell us what your influences are in the current music scene?

I come from the 90’s so this mix is just a way to go back to the basics, I like a lot ATCQ and especially  beacause I would never have done this at the time. there I can grind the sound the way I like, twist , Detuner tuner the original samples to get back to the type of work the producer did at the time. I am fascinated by the art of sampling and my mixes on samples and videos on instagram are clearly a tribute even if other producers do not necessarily see it that way .

Mr Carmack/ Geotheory/ Pomo/ Travis Scott/Tchami .

5 What are your soon to come new projects?

The release of my mix on NWA’s happening these days.

6 I come from the turntablism, do you scratch?

This is the scratch that brought me to the turntables and I love it. The level is so high today that it requires a more athletic rigor, I do not have time to follow. I have my little chirp, chirp one click, 2 click flare… that allow me to stay in the game but I like to watch videos from dj djaz to Nix’on and Rash they make me depressed haha ​​…

1 Hi R-ash, first thank you for giving us the time as well as preparing this mix for Retrofuture. Could you introduce yourself for those who do not know you?

Riad Hammadi aka R-ASH [RH], DJ, producer and Boss of the Lobby Records label, I had a long career in the field of dj’s competitions (7 times Champion of France and 3 times Vice World Champion) from 2000 to 2010, have been residing on different Radio: Local Radios in my hometown (Toulon), Radio FG from 2004 to 2008 and now Mouv ‘Radio from the Radio France group. At the same time I made several tours through France with different rap groups and French pop bands (Puzzle, Haroun Scred Connection, Anais, Entourage …) I did appearances on various projects, released two album ( Tayrald Break and Daily Thrill) for dj’s turntablist via the Scratch Science label, under the name of Vand Vand and for 2 years I put out regularly tracks and remixes and continues to travel, all over France and from time to time abroad.

2 Tell us about your set. Can you tell us what your influences in the current musical landscape are?And where you situate yourself in it?

It depends on the mood, there are songs I’m going to enjoy one day and the days after a little less … I put myself in the middle of it, the goal is to be the least influenced possible, in the meaning that no matter your level is in what you do, the key is to have a particular identity.

3 What do you think are the artists to follow now?

There’re guys like Cashmere Cat / Lido among others who were able to bring up to date RnB vibes that was banned for a few years in the world of electronic music, some artists affiliated to Soulection also understood the importance to put back the musicality in the center of things …There’s artists like Pyrmdplaza or Invention to name a few who have made incredible tracks, in fact I’m really sensitive to particular songs, everything is not good to listen, unfortunately even among guys who have made bangers.

4 What are your musical projects to come, as well as those of which you are most proud of?

I prepare the release of Never Let Me Go, the song, the video clip, and the Remixes by artists from whom I appreciate the work, in fact I think it is the formula that best stick with our time, at the crossroads between Single, compilation and EP. It goes deep with a set of styles I feel close to and reflects the image and the overall direction of the label when it comes to the releases. In fact I am proud of my whole career, I realized the dreams of when I was a kid and I’ve spent my life doing what I wanted, I made a life out of it and I realize how lucky I can be .

5 You do come from the turntablist scene, how long do you practice? How did you fell into it?

I started in ’96 at the age of 11, 3 or 4 years before the arrival of Hip Hop and democratization in Europe, we were lucky to have the cable, the ancestor of Box or ADSL, we could watch MTV and was glued to Yo MTV Rap, it was the golden age … So the fact of putting yourself at rapping or getting you a role in the movement was necessary to you ; my brother and cousins who had a rap group at the time were lucky to find Technics MKII in good condition at a guy who wanted to get rid of it … it was a godsend and after that it was on …

6 What do you think of the current scene scratch?

I think she is in effervescence, I’m stunned knowing the stability in the number of fan but I regret a little that some of them lack of flow because they want to go too fast beyond learning the basics techniques.

7 You play quite fairly new sounds like, trap, jersey club, you’re already on the radio le moov, how are your takes on these recent trends here in France?

The future will tell but I think it’s just the evolution of things, there is some for everybody, all the work of a DJ is to sort and to share the best with the public, at the same time I am away from current trends which mark a particular time.

1 Salut Odilon, tout d’abord merci de nous accorder du temps ainsi que de nous avoir préparer ce mix pour RetroFuture. Pourrais tu te présenter pour ceux qui ne te connaîtraient pas ?

Mon prénom c’est bien « Odilon » j’ai 34 ans et je suis originaire du sud de la france, mais depuis 9 ans tout pile j’ai déménagé à Bruxelles. Je pratique le turntablism et j’anime des soirées depuis les années 2000. En 2005 j’ai commencé les competitions pour devenir champion du monde IDA 2010 avec les duo Fader Penetrators. Depuis seulement 3 ans je me suis mis à la production musicale.. pas mal de hip hop electro, scratch beat, future sounds et aussi un peu de house avec un pote.

2 Parles nous un peu de ton set . Peux tu nous dire ce qui t’influence dans le paysage musicale actuel. Et ou tu te situes dedans.

Pour le coup ce set est plutôt axé hip hop à l’ancienne, un court éventail de mes gouts en matière de bon vieux boombap. Il y a une courte session scratch au milieu, en effet c’est plutôt un mix dans la tradition de l’art. Pour ceux qui ne me connaissent pas je suis un passionné de musique avant tout et je suis très ouvert quand on en vient au genre musicale, j’écoutes aussi bien des trucs de maintenant, comme des hits qui ont aussi bercé l’adolescence de nos parents. Ma seul limite et celle du mauvais gout je parles de la musique qui porte une date de péremption, celle -la je la laisse à ceux qui apprécient MTV.

3 Quels sont d’après toi les artistes à suivre en ce moment ?

En ce moment je suis très fan de toute cette mouvance future beats, donc pour ne pas tout citer je parlerais de Deft, Wave racer, 20syl, Geotheory, Gramatik, Pomo, Waldo, Alizzz, Pomrad, Maxx Baer, Starkey, Lindsay Lowend, B Bravo, CYGN, Tom Misch, Parrad, etc… Après c’est chacun ses goûts aussi.

4 Quels sont tes projets musicaux à venir, ainsi que ceux dont tu es le plus fier ?

En ce moment je boss sur pas mal de nouveaux projets divers et variés… le premier s’appel « FLUO KIDD » un projet orienté production, live, dans le genre plutôt future beat, abstract hip hop, un autre House aka « The Houstakerz », et sinon j’ai commencé à bosser avec une chanteuse de formation jazz « Jobee » il y a une version en mode groupe avec des musiciens, puis plus récemment on a monté un set autour des platines plutôt axé electro pop… sinon depuis le debut et pour toujours je poursuis mon projet perso « Dj Odilon » plutôt accès turntablism / hip hop / bass music / Funky shit (cf: djodilon.com).

5 Tu viens donc de la scène turntablist , depuis combien de temps pratiques tu? Comment es tu tombé là dedans?

Tout a commencé par la mix dans les années 2000, puis à force d’écouter du hip hop et notamment d’être tombé sur une des fameuse mixtape de deejay cut killer « Hip hop soul party III » je me suis dis que c’est ca que je voulais faire, puis s’en est suivit des heures de visionnage des cassettes Vhs de cours Academix vol° 1, 2 & 3. Puis un jour je me suis payé mon billet de train pour aller faire une semaine de formation à Paris au sein même de l’Academix, avec mister sensei Dj Hitch.

6 As-tu quelques conseils à donner à ceux qui comme toi veulent faire de la compétition?

je leur conseillerais de travailler à développer leur style, de s’inspirer des grands nom afin d’en trouver sa propre expression personnelle. Puis mieux vaut commencer le plus tôt possible car il y a aussi beaucoup de choses à apprendre dans le domaine, la gestion du stress, la notion de show, la création d’un set original, la technicité, … Sinon pour les techniciens sachez que si vous calibrez votre software de montage à 133,33 bpm la grille correspondra exactement à la circonférence du disque vinyl et donc il vous sera plus facile pour disposer vos sons par quart, moitié, etc…

7 Quelles sont pour toi les qualités indispensable d’un bon Scratcheur ?

Les premières grandes qualités à posséder sont la patience et l’acharnement. Sinon écouter et s’entrainer sur tout les tempos et genres de musique, multiplier les rencontres entre scratcheur, musiciens etc… S’ouvrir aux autres aide au partage et divers échange.. Bon après avec une bonne connection internet tu as accès à tout les tutos du monde via des plate-formes telle que youtube.

8 Que penses tu de la scène scratch d’aujourd’hui ?

Je trouves notre scène turntablism diverse et varié tant en style qu’en origine. Maintenant le turntablism est devenu un phénomène mondiale, et ca c’est plutôt cool la famille s’agrandit. Mon seul bémols serait plus cette évolution de notre art vers l’abandon du vinyl, je ne voudrais pas paraitre vieux jeu mais bon laissons les platines vivre; le controlerism et une autre discipline à mes yeux. A chacun son truc !

9 Si tu étais un morceau de musique, lequel serais tu ?

Sans hésiter Tom Misch « on my mind » il suffit que je l’entende pour partir dans mes pensées.

10 Des dates à venir?

Ma prochaine date à côté d’artistes internationaux est planifié pour le samedi 16 mai à Liège à l’occasion de l’anniversaire de la Full Colorz. Je jouerais au côté de Suff Daddy et notamment MNDSGN.

For those who do not know me I am a music lover first, and I am very open when it comes to musical genre, I listen to actual music, as of hits which have also rocked our parent’s adolescence. My only limit is the bad taste I speak of music that carries an expiry date, -the one I leave to those who appreciate MTV.

3 What do you think are the artists to follow now?

Right now I’m working on many new diverse and varied projects … the first is call « FLUO KIDD » a live production oriented Project in the future beat, abstract hip hop genre, another House music aka « The Houstakerz » and I started working with an academic jazz singer « Jobee » there is a version in a group mode with musicians, that more recently was mounted around a set of turntables instead more focused electro pop … But since the beginning and forever I continue my personal project « Dj Odilon » more focused on turntablism / hip hop / bass music / Funky shit (cf. djodilon.com).

5 Do you come from the turntablist scene, from how long do you practice? How did you fell into it?

It all started with the mix in the 2000s, and by listening to hip hop and especially when I heard one of the famous deejay cut killer’s mixtape « Hip hop soul party III » I said to myself this is what I wanted to do, then followed hours of viewing VCR tapes of Academix training vol.1, 2 & 3. Then one day I bought my train ticket to go for a week of training in Paris within the Academix with mister sensei Dj Hitch.

6 Have you any tips for those who like you want to compete?

I would advise them to work to develop their style, get inspiration of the great names in order to find his own personal expression. Then better to start as soon as possible because there are also many things to learn in this, stress management, the concept of the show, creating an original set, technicality … And for the technicians know that If you calibrate your editing software to 133.33 bpm the grid will exactly match the circumference of the vinyl disc and so it will be easier to have your sound by quarter, half, etc …

7 What are for you the essential qualities of a good scratcher?

The first great qualities to have is patience and fierceness Otherwise listen and train throughout the tempos and genres, multiply meetings between scratcher, musicians etc … Opening up to others help sharing and the diversity in exchanges .. Well after with a good internet connection you have access to all tutorials of the world via platforms such as youtube.

8 What do you think of the scratch scene today?

I think that our turntablism scene is diverse and varied in style and origin. Now turntablism has become a global phenomenon and that ‘s pretty cool that the family’s growing. My only negatives would be the evolution of our art to quitting vinyl, I would not seem old fashioned but hey let them turntables live; the controlerism is another discipline to me. To each his own!

9 If you were a piece of music, which would you be?

Without hesitation Tom Misch « on my mind » I just need to hear it to get lost in my thoughts.

10 The next shows?

My next shows next to international artists is planned for Saturday, May 16 in Liege on the occasion of the anniversary of the Full Colorz. I would play alongside Suff Daddy including MNDSGN.

1 / Salut! Tout d’abord merci beaucoup d’être là pour Retrofuture! Peux tu te présenter?

Hey. On me connaît sous le nom Robot Orchestra et je suis un producteur / beatmaker de Cologne en Allemagne. Je suis également l’un des deux co-fondateurs de Hobo Truffes, un net-label et un collectif de producteur.

1/Hi ! First of all thank you so much for being here for Retrofuture ! Can you introduce yourself ? 

Hey there. I go by the name of Robot Orchestra and I’m a producer/beat-maker from Cologne/Germany. I’m also one of the two co-founders of Hobo Truffles, a Net-label and producer collective.

2/This set is entirely composed with your own productions and remixes , can you talk about it? 

Well, first and foremost I’m a beat-maker, not a DJ. That’s why I decided to use strictly my own music for this mix. Most of the tracks are pretty laid-back, which is kind of becoming my thing lately. The mix includes a few remixes I did of Artists like STWO and Weirdinside, and a bunch of tracks which were featured on various compilations. The Set also includes a few new and previously unreleased tracks.

3/What insipires you? What helps you in your musical creation process? Who are your favorites producers? 

I draw most of my inspiration from music that speaks to me on some level. I tend to listen to a lot of music from the late 60s and 70s, mostly Soul, Jazz and Psychedelic Rock. And of course I also listen to contemporary instrumental music.

Producers who inspired my the most recently were probably Flying Lotus, Chrome Sparks, Flume, Iamnobodi, and Invention just to name a few.

To be honest, I can’t really tell what helps me with the musical process specifically.

I just try to let the creativity flow naturally and not to force it, if that makes any sense.

4/I only heard from you tracks such as instrumentals. Would you like to collaborate with mc’s? Which ones? 

Actually I do work with Rappers occasionally. I had the pleasure of working with some very talented underground emcees like Skyblew, Cor Stidak, Supreme Sol, MARS and more. Throwing all realistic expectations out of the window, I would say I’d like to work with Kendrick Lamar. He’s just an amazing Lyricist.

5/How long it’s been since you start beatmaking? Can you talk a bit about your producing set-up?

I first started getting into making beats about 12 years ago, but only began taking it more serious about 3 or 4 years ago. It’s just something that I love doing and it stuck with me over the years. As of now, I mostly work with two Roland SP’s (555 and 404sx), a Microkorg, a midi-keyboard and an Akai mpd32. As for a DAW I use Ableton Live.

6/ What’s your favorite pieces of Software or hardware?

Phew, that’s hard to say. Hardware-wise, I’m gonna go with the Microkorg.

I very much enjoy the challenge of creating/programming interesting sounds with a small and simple synthesizer like this. As far as Software goes, I’d say Ableton Live in general.

I love the flexible workflow with all the options that midi-mapping provides.

7/You’re from Germany, i see a lot of talented beatmakers there , i think about Suff Daddy , Dexter , Fid mella , IAMNOBODI and more ,  labels like Jakarta , Mpm and Project Mooncircle … ! Can you tell us how you feel about this scene in your country? Worldwide?

It’s a blessing really to be surrounded by so many talented beat-makers and labels who support the beat-scene. It is very motivating to me in many aspects. I’m glad that nowadays instrumental music can stand for itself, instead of being just « background music » for vocalists.

8/Do you have forthcoming projects? 

Currently, I’m working on a solo EP and another Ep in collaboration with a producer friend of mine named Sterio. There are also a few official remixes in the works which will be released sometime this year.

9/Any gigs? 

I’ll be playing in Dortmund/Germany on February 21st at The Bring Your Owns Beats Cypher. On March 28th I’ll be in Prague/Czech Republic. And on April 25th I’ll be playing in Berlin/Germany at the Hip Hop Convention.

Salut, je m’appelle Thibault, j’ai 17 ans et je viens d’Alsace. J’ai commencé la musique à l’âge de 4 ans avec le piano. Depuis 2 ans maintenant, je compose également sur ordinateur. Pour mes compositions on me surnomme « Aei« . Un nom d’origine grecque qui signifie « l’éternité », ce qui me correspond bien, car pour moi, la musique en général est éternelle et sans limite.

1/ Hi and thank you for this set ! Can you introduce yourself ? 
Yo, I AM Thibault , 17years old beatmaker from Alsace in east France. I started music at 4 with keyboard. Since 2 y now i make music with computers. For that my nickname is AEI. It means eternity. It fine to me cuz for me the music is eternal and without limits.
2/ We find that you’re from the new generation of producers with no musical boundaries. Can you talk to us about your influences?
2 Yes that’s right. Hip-hop and electro both inspire me but not only. I’m from a musician family and with keyboard i start in the classical world. For me classical is the roots for lot of actual musics and a main inspiration to me. I’m in love with world music too , big inspiration too! I love the sounds of life too, sounds of the streets or sounds of your kitchen . I can sample some cooking tools ahah .
To name a few artists i can say Ta-ku for his crazy beats , emotional and so original and Wookid for his powerfull compositions.

3/Can you talk about your guest mix?

3. For this one, i wanted to create the best playlist to travel . You can find lot of my favorite artists. Their music make me dream and give me the power to love each day. So i wanted to give you the emotions i feel with these songs. A catchy beginning and after that some deep tracks to meditate and dream to come back to the reality.

4/ Any project ?

4 . Not now because i am a student:) and i have exams to pass. But my last EP was release last month. It contains tracks of my soundcloud and is out in limity CD edition.

5/ Any gigs?

5. I love to make live at keyboard or on the decks but not for the moment .
